Fujifilm's FinePix REAL 3D System - 3D Camera

Fujifilm's contribution to the 3D world has a bigger share now. The famous imaging company has now come up with the world's first 3D ( three dimensional ) digital imaging system the 'FinePix REAL 3D System'. This system allows users to view 3D images without the need of wearing those multicoloured glasses.

The system contains:
  • FinePix REAL 3D W1
  • the 3D camera
  • FinePix REAL 3D V1
  • an 8 inch viewer on which spectacular 3D images can be displayed
  • 3D Print- Fujifilm's high precision production technology that enables users to print 3D images

How it Works: Fujifilm Explains

To achieve a 3D image, it is necessary to flawlessly layer together 2 images, so 2 Fujinon lenses, known for their high resolution & exquisite rendering, are installed. A 3x optical zoom, deemed difficult to achieve in 3D photography because of the precision required to align 2 lenses, has also been achieved. Moreover, the engine of the camera - RP (Real Photo) Processor 3D, another photo technology developed by Fujifilm over the years - synchronizes data passed to it by the two lenses and two CCD sensors
, to determine shooting conditions such as focus, brightness and tonality to instantaneously blend this information into a single symmetrical image. The 2.8-inch 3D/2D LCD monitor features Fujifilm's own LCD panel.

In the 'Individual Shutter 3D Shooting' mode, the camera takes two shots, one after the other, and saves a single 3D image in the camera manually. The 3D image generated can be edited and this is particularly useful for landscape photography where a 3D image is difficult to achieve, or conversely, macro shots, where the 3D effect can be too strong.

In the 'Interval 3D Shooting' mode, it is possible to take two shots from different viewpoints continuously while the photographer is moving, for example by train, airplane, or car, etc., to achieve 3D images of long-distance views. By using the 'Parallax Control (3D Tuning Function)', the 3D images can be manually adjusted for a clear and sharper 3D view.

New iPod Touch - Mysterious hardware

The teardown of the latest iPod Touch by iFixit has revealed a Wi-Fi hardware and a slot for a camera. Gadget teardown specialist iFixit on Friday said that during its dissection of the new device, it found a few "unexpected discoveries".

One of the most notable findings was a Broadcom BCM4329 chip that supports 802.11n. "This is a big deal, as even the iPhone 3GS doesn't support 802.11n," said Kyle Wiens of iFixit. The Apple smartphone, which has a very similar look on the outside to the iPod Touch, has a Broadcom BCM4325 wireless chip, only supporting 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi connectivity, according to Wiens.

"We don't know yet if 802.11n will be supported in the iPod Touch software, but at least the hardware's there," he said.

The Broadcom chip also supports FM transmission and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR (enhanced data rate), endowing the touch-screen iPod with the potential to stream music to the car stereo. "But that's a lot of ifs," Wiens said.

iFixit also said the internal layout of the iPod appears to leave room for a camera in the top of the device. "There is a 6x6x3-millimeter space between the Broadcom chip and the wireless antenna."
Added Wiens: "There isn't enough depth for an iPhone-style autofocus still camera, but just enough room for the camera that Apple used in the fifth-generation iPod Nano. We did not find any headers on the board for a camera cable."

Microsoft Zune HD Teardown - details

The core silicon in the Zune HD is an Nvidia Tegra processor (see photo) based on the power-frugal ARM chip design. The system-on-chip uses less than 0.5 watts of power. Tegra's defining feature is the integrated Nvidia GeForce graphics chip, which gives the Zune its graphics processing oomph.
The Zune HD also uses a SiPORT HD Radio chip and a 32GB flash memory chip from Hynix, according to iFixit.

Probably the most conspicuous feature of the Microsoft media player is a 3.3 inch OLED display capacitive touch screen. OLED screens draw significantly less power than a traditional LCD. "This isn't the first product with an OLED, but it's certainly cutting-edge technology, and something we haven't seen in any Apple devices yet," iFixit said.

The Zune also offers HD (720p) video out, Wi-Fi, a Web browser (with tap-to-zoom technology), built-in accelerometer, and a touch-screen QWERTY keyboard.
Microsoft claims the Zune's battery provides 8.5 hours video playback.
