A bi-turbodiesel hybrid which uses a 3.0-litre TDI with two electric motors to develop 296bhp. Sure, that doesn't sound like a lot in this company, but the E-tron Spyder also amasses 650Nm of torque for a 0-100kph time of 4.4 seconds, faster than a 4.2-litre V8-engined R8.
You can even mooch about town for 50km spewing no dirty emissions up pedestrians' nostrils. The electric Spyder tips the scales at 1,450kg (despite Audi's extensive aluminium expertise), but with a short wheelbase — 22cm shorter than an R8's — and 50:50 weight distribution, Ingolstadt promises go-kart-like handling ability. We'll just have to take their word for it, as well as for the claim of 128mpg and a 1,000km range.
