Mercedes Benz India is all set to roll out its new E-Class (codenamed W212) by the end of this month.
The ninth-generation E-class model, which was unveiled at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show and launched subsequently in the European and American markets, will be assembled at the German luxury carmaker’s Pune plant in Maharashtra. However, in the Indian market, it is likely to launch only one variant with 3.5L 24 Valve V6 petrol engine with direct injection which develops 292 bhp and will be mated to a 7-Gtronic automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
Once launched, it will be pitted against BMW India’s 5-series models, which are also assembled in the country. The current E-class models under Merc India’s portfolio are sold in the range of Rs. 38-43 lakh, the production of which has been stopped recently. The prices of the new E-class have not been revealed by the company yet.
In the international markets, the new E class will have many new innovations and technologies available like a speed limit spotting ability, adaptive highbeam assist and Night View Assist Plus. A rear seat package will have similar amenities to that of a rear seat in the S class. The new E-Class went on sale in Europe in March and went on sale in America in July. The Design for The E-Class is based on the Mercedes-Benz Concept Fascination, as well as the C and S-Classes.
