Pagani might be just a tiny car manufacturer, but the Huayra has been undergoing a detailed and painstaking (just google ‘Pagani C9 crash') five-year development process. Five prototypes were initially built to conduct road tests from the Death Valley to the Arctic Circle, ensuring the model can handle all climate extremes.

A carbon-titanium central monocoque is completely new, achieving huge levels of rigidity thanks to gullwing doors. Pagani even managed to fit the fuel tank inside the safety shell, while the front and rear subframes incorporate energy absorbing crash structures. Pure race car stuff. Especially when you realise the Huayra weighs just 1,350kg making it 255kg lighter than a Ferrari 599 GTO and 210kg lighter than the Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SV.

With a Mercedes-AMG 60-degree, 6.0-litre V12 turbocharged to 700bhp, the new Pagani boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 519bhp-per-tonne. There's also 1,000Nm of torque, while the turbos are able to avail all this twist earlier than ever thanks to tweaking that enables immediate response and at any point in the rev band. Dry sump lubrication means the engine never gets starved of oil either, and a titanium exhaust system weighing 10kg less than before completes the heart of the Huayra.

Aerodynamically, the Huayra is state of the art, with adjustable front ride height and control flaps on all four corners. These flaps raise or lower according to inputs from the ABS and ECU, calculating speed, yaw rate, lateral acceleration, steering angle and throttle position to make a decision.

The iPad continued to wow us throughout the long-term test. No hidden flaws became apparent in the hardware, and we still like it just as described in our original review. The new iOS 4 represents a significant improvement, thanks especially to the introduction of multitasking.

It still has its closed system which is controlled by Apple. It means that interesting apps like the mobile Firefox browser or VLC are still denied to users. On the other hand, there is a wide range of genuinely high-quality applications in the App Store, with a simple payment system. Android has not (yet) achieved this.

Despite all of this, the iPad is still predominantly a consumer tablet which has to be specially adapted if you want to use it for business. For this reason iOS still cannot compare with a desktop operating system.

Once you have come to terms with its limitations, the iPad is still without a doubt far better than the rivals that came after it, like the Galaxy Tab and the Dell Streak.

Does the up-to-date technophile need an iPad? A difficult question, particularly for those who already have a smartphone. But once you have an iPad, you won’t want to be without one...

Acer takes an inexpensive chassis and fills it with currently popular components. The Aspire 5742G-458G64Mnkk speeds up applications with a Core i5-450M and a whole 8 GB of RAM (2x 4GB). NVIDIA's GeForce GT 540M is added. It supplies a high 3DMark 2006 score (7458) and is basically on par with AMD's HD 5650 and HD 6550M. Additionally, users receive the graphics switcher, Optimus, which automatically switches among the Intel HD and the dedicated GPU.

The cooling system for the 35 watt processor works appropriately quiet in default mode and even in games. The temperatures only exceed 40 degrees selectively. The battery life is also viable due to low power consumption (idle: 10.7 watts, Optimus). However, the weak 48 Wh battery actually doesn't allow any long train rides.

The Samsung Q330 Aura i3-350M Suri proved to be a simply designed office subnotebook with (limited) mobility advantages in our test. The battery life of four hours, the keyboard's good feedback, the silent operation and the seldomly achieved brightness (281 cd/m2) are decisive advantages.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer ruins this bonus with a hardly glare type display hardly suitable for use in sunlight. The mini entry-level GPU, Nvidia Geforce 310M (512 MB) can be disabled via Nvidia's Optimus. The graphics isn't supposed to be a purchasing factor though. Current games will have a hard time (see gaming tests on the Geforce 310M's data sheet). In the end, its slim silhouette and the brushed aluminum looks could be purchasing arguments. The workmanship doesn't surpass the average in view of the selectively yielding case and the not completely tightly mounted hinges.

With the Core i3-350M, the Pro L670 is sufficiently equipped to handle office applications over the next couple of years. The integrated Intel HD graphics makes for low energy consumption (9 Watts at idle), and the ergonomics are exemplary. In addition, the heat emissions and noise levels are very low whether at idle or under load.

The "grippy", and low maintenance plastic case is impressive even if the rigidity is not consistent throughout. One can still not avoid the impression however, that this is a budget laptop. The available interfaces which include HDMI and eSATA are acceptable, but they have been positioned in the most inconvenient places imaginable. A cable salad will be almost inevitable when connecting many devices.

The 1.4-litre turbo petrol motor might ‘only' produce 140bhp, but in a car this size that's plenty. This rev-happy engine snarls its way around the tachometer, emitting a buzzy, impatient sound that's highly addictive.

In an unusual move, the 500C Abarth comes with a semi-auto gearbox complete with steering wheel paddleshifters. It's unusual for two reasons: such technology isn't cheap yet Fiat has managed to position the car competitively, plus this technology always divides opinion.

On a basic level, the 500C Abarth displays an edgy character that the regular, cute 500 lacks. Not everyone wants a bulging bodykit and a beefy exhaust, which is why so many regular 500s have found homes.

But that ‘edge' is precisely what the 500 needs to appeal to a section of the buying public seeking a fun, small car with genuine talent. It's easy for car makers to bolt on go-faster bits to create the illusion of enhanced performance.

Fiat has done a thorough job with this 500C — something Abarth fans can be proud of.

The manufacturer, MSI, has always known how to squeeze high-performance components into the limited room of a 15 inch case. The GT663R is perfect evidence for this. In addition to a fast Intel quad core processor (Core i7-740QM), the gaming notebook is equipped with a high-end graphics card from Nvidia. The GeForce GTX 460M is DirectX 11 suitable. But not only gamers, but also movie fans are taken care of. The installed FullHD display can develop its full potential due to a BluRay drive.

The three currently available models only differ in the RAM capacity and hard disk configuration. The GT663R-i7468BLW7P that costs 1500 euros has a six GB DDR3 RAM (3x 2048 MB) and two 320 GB HDDs. The GT663R-i7488BLW7P we've tested costs 1600 euros and serves with an eight GB DDR3 RAM (2x 2048 MB). Then again, MSI charges a superior price for its top model. The buyer has to cough up an additional 300 euros (1800 euros) for 12 GB of DDR3 RAM (3x 4096 MB) and a hard disk capacity of 1000 GB (2x 500 GB).

The sound is also above-average. You only hear such impressive sound in the fewest notebooks. The GT663R's biggest advantage is its brute power. Nvidia's GeForce GTX 460M and Intel's Core i7-740QM create a very potent duo that deals with most fields of application successfully. Eight GB of DDR3 RAM and a RAID 0 array of two fast 7200 HDDs are another guarantee for high-performance.

The Toshiba Folio has several merits which score well compared to some of the Android competitors. The display offers good maximum brightness, the range of equipment with webcam, card reader, USB, HDMI and docking port is impressive and Android 2.2 is already installed.

In terms of technology, the Toshiba Folio 100 has an important built-in selling point with its Nvidias Tegra 250, which, at least in theory, can boast considerably greater performance reserves than Apple's A4 processor. Also, a webcam, HDMI, a card reader and USB 2.0 aren't even available on the iPad, which for many users is an important selling point.

The Dell Inspiron duo Convertible shows an overall patchy performance. As a notebook it performs as expected, but as a tablet lacks a good screen and optimized software. It's, therefore, unfortunately not the hoped-of dream hybrid of laptop and tablet, although we found the flip-screen mechanism to be as practical as it is flashy.

The good craftsmanship, comfortable feel of the rubberized case surface as well as the keyboard and touchpad all go to the duo's credit. The variety of ports is limited to three and the optional Dell Inspiron duo Audio Dock helps little in most situation and comes at a hefty price. The Dock can only be used in tablet mode and even so the device can't be hooked up to an external monitor. The biggest downsides about using the duo as a tablet is the average LCD screen with narrow viewing angles, reflective screen and the choppy performance of Dell duo Stage UI software. The tablet interface looks nice on the surface, but the program run by Windows 7 frustrates with its delayed reactions and the tilt sensor takes to long to respond to changes in orientation. In this case, the duo is no match for conventional tablets with an optimized operating system and multi-tasking capability.

Acer attempts a balancing act of performance and mobility. The 14.1 inch size is large enough for an optical drive (not in the 13.3 inch Aspire 3820TG). Additionally it also bids a cooling system for the 35 watt Core i7-640M processor as well as the AMD Radeon HD 6550M. The TimelineX model no longer belongs to the subnotebooks with a weight of 2069 grams, but in view of the strong performance it's is a very light multimedia notebook. The new Radeon graphics, which can surpass the HD 5650 slightly, is interesting for gamers. The 3D performance advantage isn't really striking, though.

The awesome application performance that Intel's X25-M SSD and fast Core i7-640M (2x2.8 GHz) creates isn't surprising. The fact that this performance is available at a consumer price of 1300 euros is much more remarkable. For equally strong business devices, such as Sony's Vaio VPC-Z13Z9E/X or Toshiba's Portégé R700-172, you have to pay 1900, respectively 1800 euros.

The Geforce GTX 480M and the new Nvidia Geforce GTX 485M cannot have much in common, because a performance gain of plus 42% on average in games would not be possible if they did. It gets apparent that a fully-fledged GT104 core can clearly cope better with mobile gaming demands than the trimmed down GT100 in the GTX 480M. The old ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 is even outdone by 69% on average.

Other than the GeForce GTX 480M, the 485M is no longer based on a trimmed down GF100 chip, but on the related GF104, which is designed for the consumer sector and has 385 cores if completely used. E.g., it is already used in the GeForce GTX 470M (but only with 288 cores) which convinced with a performance on par with the GTX 480M and low energy demand.

The technology differs quite a bit from the GF100 chip (which was actually designed for professional use) and was optimized. The GF104 has more shaders (3x16 vs. 2x16), texture units (8 vs. 4) and SFUs (Special-Funciton-Units) per Streaming-Multiprocessors (SM). Nvidia now uses the superscalar architecture, because there are still only two warp schedulers supporting three shader blocks. In theory this helps utilizing the shaders more efficiently and increases the performance per core. However, the performance can even drop below the GF100 architecture (and its predecessors) in the worst case. The ECC memory protection, important in professional applications, was completely omitted and the FP64 was trimmed down (only 1/3 of the shaders are FP64-capable, only 1/12 of the FP32 performance). Because of the reductions in comparison with the GF100, the size of a SM increased only by 25% despite the higher number of shaders. It is not possible to directly compare the number of cores to the AMD Radeon graphics cards (e.g. HD 5870) and its predecessors (e.g., G92b), because shader architecture and clock rates are different.

The performance of the Intel HD Graphics 3000 can indeed be called impressive. In many older and current gaming titles it competes at a level of entry-level graphics cards like the Geforce G 310M, the GT 220M or the ATI HD5470. It multiplies the performance of the previous Intel GMA HD solution. In practice this means that older games can be played at high graphics settings and current games mostly at low graphics details.

Concerning the integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000, you should keep in mind that it is - depending on the CPU - differently clocked. While the tested i7-2720QM CPU clocks the graphics chip at 650 up to 1300 MHz, the clock rate of the GPU only ranges from 650-1200 MHz in the i7-2635QM or from 650-1100 MHz in the i7-2630QM. In ULV processors the clock rate is even lower at 350-900 MHz. So, the performance drops accordingly. The same is true for systems with slender cooling capacities, because this might hinder the turbo function in achieving the maximum performance boost.

Contrary to the GMA HD, Intel HD Graphics 3000 is directly integrated in the processor core of the Sandy-Bridge processors. Alike its predecessor it does not have a dedicated graphics memory, but, can access the Level-3 cache of the CPU (which is now called 'Last Level Cache' - LLC) of up to 8 MB, depending on the CPU. Further memory requirements are covered by accessing the RAM of the computer.

Alike the actual cores of the CPU, the integrated HD Graphics 3000 can dynamically adjust its clock rate upon increased load (Turbo Boost). However, some processors of the Sandy-Bridge family handle this feature differently. E.g., the clock rates range from 650 MHz to a maximum of 1300 MHz in the new i5/i7-2X20 or i5/i7-2X40 M/QM/XM processors, while the i3-2310M and also the i7-2630QM use a clock rate between 650 and 1100 MHz and the i5-2410M and the i7-2635QM between 650-1200 and are therewith lower clocked. ULV processors, e.g., the i7-2617M have an even lower clock rate of 350 to 900MHz, so, the performance should drop accordingly. The Intel HD Graphics 3000 has 12 Execution Units (comparable to pipelines). Despite the same number than in the GMA HD, they have been improved and are now clearly faster than in the predecessor.

Dell has attempted to make a good subnotebook even better with the Vostro V130. The effort falls short in an important place, however: the battery life. The notebook, lasting 2 hours 31 minutes in the WiFi test, cannot keep up with the subnotebook competition (typically 4-6 hours).

Aside from that, the V130 is an almost perfect subnotebook. The sturdy and stylish case makes it easy to brag, the matte display is convenient for office work, the system noise and heat emission are low and the placement of most ports at the back is perfect. On top of that, you get a low-voltage processor and a fast 7,200 rpm hard drive. Those looking for a completely silent notebook should consider the SSD option (128 GB). The HDD spinning is the only constant noise produced by the subnotebook.

The Sony VPC-EC3M1E/BJ (starting at 945 Euro in various stores) is a well-rounded 17.3" notebook that attempts to cover the entertainment and work requirements of the entire family. It's successful in this regard with the exception of its weak display which makes family film night a disappointment.

In terms of performance, occasional gamers and video editors will be satisfied with the Intel Core i5 460M (2 x 2.53 GHz) and the ATI HD 5650 (450 MHz). Serious gamers will, however, have to shed a tear for the downsampled GPU, which sometimes causes a substantially poorer refresh rate with high graphics settings on (depending on the game). Most likely, though, even an HD 5650 running at the normal 550 MHz would not have been enough to play current games in the native HD+ resolution of 1,600x900.

The performance, with the high clocking Core i5-560M, is apt for demanding applications, like video and sound editing. The system performance is exceptionally high due to the fast rotating 500 GB hard disk (20th place in the ranking of ALL notebooks). A drawback for gamers is the Radeon HD 5650 clocked down to 450 MHz. It is measurably not as strong as the 550 MHz counterpart.

The high performance can be cooled by an efficient, but always audible cooling system without ado. The battery life of about three and a half hours isn't close to being a high-flyer, but can be called viable. Moreover, the Beats Audio sound profile together with the installed speakers provides a balanced sound, including a few basses.

The XPS 17 could have been a great notebook, if Dell hadn't neglected certain issues. While Dell has concentrated on good image quality in the past (e.g. XPS 16), the standard run of the mill product, as other manufactures like to use, is found in the XPS 17. Additionally, the application and gaming performance is remarkable due to the quad core processor and fast GeForce GT 445M. The battery life is absolutely acceptable in view of the considerable power consumption.

The new model comes with what Audi calls a free breathing 5.2 litre V10 gasoline engine that generates 525bhp and 530Nm of torque.

It can reach a top speed of 313 km/h and can do the overrated 0-100km/h sprint in around 4 seconds. The new engine is mated with an R-Tronic sequential six speed transmission that transmits power to the rear-biased Quattro all wheel drive system.

The gear box is a little different from your usual Audi and takesquite a bit of getting used to, but onceyou do, it blends in perfectly with the way you drive. The R8 spyder - unlike the coupé - has its air intakes situated behind the doors and it gives a very macho look to the car. It also comes with launch control like most supercars that enables optimum clutch control during take off.

Throttle response on the R8 feels almost the same as the earlier V8 version. The new V10 has a distinct engine sound, but I feel it could have been a little more Italian for that extra appeal.

Equinux offers an exclusive possibility to also watch television on an iPad, iPhone, or iPod with the tizi. Hewlett Packard has already had a 15.6 incher with basic office equipment in its program for a while. A matt TFT, a high-end and stable case, a good keyboard layout and low emissions speak for a pleasant office use. The battery life of almost four hours doesn't have to hide from the Core i3 office rivals. Contrarily, many Core i3 systems only reach three hours. The matt and acceptably bright TFT is inviting for a stay on the terrace next summer.

The Pentium Dual-Core T4500 (2x2.30 GHz) no longer plays in the first office league, but at any rate in the third. We only find insignificant differences in computing performance, and hardly any in system performance, in comparison to the Athlon II P320 (2x2.10 GHz). If you want to save a bit of money, you'll not make a wrong decision with the HP 625 (Athlon II P320). Merely the AMD system's battery life is about an hour shorter.

The Microsoft Arc Touch offers an exciting concept. The mouse is simply folded open for use, and can thus find space in any bag without problems for transportation. The folding mechanism makes a robust impression and should also attract some interested glances from the neighbors.

The second highlight is clearly the touch sensor for the effortless scrolling, especially for particularly long websites. The haptical feedback from the integrated motor will soon not want to be missed again. Unfortunately it cannot be switched off, and could be a little disturbing in quiet surroundings.

The excitedly awaited XPS 15 does not disappoint. Its timeless, sleek design and sturdy build are quite appealing. As far as the screen attributes are concerned, some improvements could be made.

The comfortable keyboard is good for the longest of typing binges. The well-calibrated touchpad is no worse. The placement and variety of ports only sweeten the deal. External devices can be hooked up via the two USB 3.0 ports or the combination eSATA/USB 2.0 port. The HDMI and Mini DisplayPort give you two digital outputs to an external monitor. The XPS 15 supports a 3D picture via the HDMI port to a 3D-capable external screen, although the screen can't render 3D on its own. The Nvidia GeForce GT 435M dedicated graphics card likewise supports a 3D picture.

What is noticeable when driving a Rolls-Royce is that it terrifies other drivers into a state of mouse-like timidity. Convinced that you are someone important, people get out of your way, keep their distance and refuse to reprimand you with a furious blast of their horn for driving at an arrogantly slow speed - although due to Rolls-Royce's legendary smoothness it frequently feels like you're doing 70kph when you're actually touching on the legal limit. Still, despite the V12 6.75-litre engine, you feel like it would be sacrilege to put your foot on the gas. Being in a hurry is a state that hardly seems befitting for someone who can afford arguably the world's most revered car.

Steering, brakes and suspension work in perfect harmony and its road-handling is superb, reassuringly hugging the surface on the sharpest bends. Despite its abundance of internal features, such as the twinkling night-sky headlining and a Logic7 Audio system with integration for an iPod, the Phantom somehow doesn't feel cluttered with technology and retains that old-world look which reminds you of the company's illustrious heritage. The picnic table in the trunk is a nice touch, offering seating and al fresco dining for two.

The 13-inch MacBook Air is a very exciting Subnotebook. The revamped unibody case leaves an excellent impression with its design, manufacturing quality, and stability despite of its very thin build. Thanks to the large high resolution 13" display, and the very good input devices, there is no need to compromise while working. Also the performance should prove enough to satisfy most users without excessive CPU demands. Even the occasional game is possible without problems thanks to the GeForce 320M. Most Subnotebooks fail in this area.

The meager measurements and weight are attainable for an expensive price, as well as the virtually non-existent and deliberately difficult upgrade possibilities. The 2011 M series comes with two engine variants: the M37 with a 3.7 litre V6 engine that generates 328 horsepower, and the M56 with a 5.6 litre V8 engine that generates 402 horsepower. The VVEL and Direct Injection Gasoline technology are used in both variants and this ensures that the car delivers power when needed while staying fuel efficient at the same time.

The M56's engine although very large and powerful, is not very sporty in nature although a sports version with active four-wheel steering, optimised suspension and brakes is available. The car is more luxury oriented and the smooth seven-speed transmission contributes a lot to the way it feels. With the traction control switched off, the car is capable of bringing its 402 horsepower driven rear wheels to life for a little bit of drifting action, but somewhere in the back of your mind you realise that this is not what the car was intended to do. It's a gadget-laden luxury sedan.

In the city, the car does not throw its weight around and handles quite well. It's got four drive modes - Standard, Economy, Sport and Snow - which according to Infiniti, adjusts throttle sensitivity and transmission mapping to suit.

The HP Pavilion dv6 has left a good impression. There are a few smaller rough edges in the odd place, but ultimately you receive a great total package. The notebook can hold its ground as a mobile entertainer. AMD's quad core processor and the dedicated ATI graphics card supply enough performance. If the power isn't needed, you can simply use the graphics incorporated in the chipset. But the Pavilion dv6 won't turn into a long life talent with it either. Mobile use comes to an end after a maximum of 2 hours and 45 minutes. That would have actually been all of the notebook's significant drawbacks.

A BluRay drive in combination with a FullHD display would be a sensible enhancement for the Pavilion dv6. Thus, FullHD material could either be rendered directly on the screen or transmitted to a large, external monitor.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is here. One of the most noticeable differences when comparing the two devices (Tab And iPad) is that the iPad is a good deal smoother and sleeker than the Galaxy Tab. This makes the Samsung's price, which is higher than that of the already expensive iPad, all the more irritating. This high price is exactly what keeps the Galaxy Tab from attaining perfection and is altogether incomprehensible.

The Galaxy Tab does have some very good points like its various pre-installed software, up-to-date Android 2.2 operating system, convenient built-in digital camera, frontcam for video chatting and of course its full functionality as a cell phone. That is, a bunch of areas in which the Apple iPad is no worse off. The iPad's strong dependency on iTunes software is a major criticism that the Galaxy Tab avoids. It's quickly recognized as a storage device via USB. Transferring files is as easy as copy and paste. Automatic updates, like those during every synchronization with iTunes, are lacking, however.

The 2011 Continental GT is lighter than its predecessor, having shed 65kg. It is also capable of running on E85 flex fuels, which isn't so relevant to this part of the world. Under the bonnet, the 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12 engine has a raised power output of 567bhp and 700Nm of torque — up 15bhp and 50Nm over the previous edition. This is mated to a new ZF Quickshift transmission which enables double downshifts and cuts change times in half, to a region of 200 milliseconds. The 'box, however, still only has the six ratios.

The power is mainlined to all four wheels with a 40:60 front-to-rear standard torque split, a change from the old car's 50:50 distribution that curbs understeer and enables a little more adjustability with the throttle.

This is all good for a 0-100kph time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 318kph.
